Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) has the need for a physician on-call schedule communication solution, that allows JBH clinicians and physicians to locate the on-call resource with or without the mediation of locating services (a.k.a switchboard) – virtual locating. The solution should also support secure messaging between users and replace the need for pagers.  

JBH has a fragmented system for Physician on-call Schedule communication and locating that involves multiple applications and manual steps, resulting in laborious processes and unnecessary delays. Currently JBH physician to physician communication is facilitated by a locating service, phone calls, and non-secure texting. Our vision is to deploy a single, integrated communication solution that has the following functionality:

• On-call schedule access and maintenance
  • Every JBH on-call service has the ability to publish their on-call schedule, regardless of how it was created into a central repository that is accessible electronically and allows for ad hoc modifications as required
• Virtual Locating
  • JBH staff are able to view the on-call resource, per service, using mobile application or web portal and able to connect with them directly, without going through Switchboard Locating
•  Secure Texting
  • Ability for designated staff to securely text, respond, and view message status via their mobile device
